On our last trip after the Big Ticket Festival, we traveled to the UP. We visited the Tahquamenon Falls State Park. Prior to dinner at the brewery, (at the park), we saw a deer just wandering through the parking lot. I grabbed my camera and followed it while it was snacking on some weeds and grass. It was surreal! Then we decided to drive around a bit and saw 2 black bear at two different times just wandering down the road. If I see a moose, I will feel complete! Pics to come.

A Michigan organization is trying to get a bottle return deposit on water bottles due to an increase in Americans use of drinking bottled water. In return, a Michigan representative is trying to get a law on the books to make recycling simpler. In 1976, Michigan passed a law to place a bottle deposit on pop and beer. The deposit is .10 per bottle here and has helped decrease the waste around the state with regard to cans and bottles. Now, the Michign Environmental Council is lobbying to get a bottle deposit on plastic bottles. I like the idea and I’m not a tree hugger. The biggest problem is that stores need to then handle the responsibility of recycling the materials, which can be problematic for smaller stores. Rep. Geoff Hansen is countering the idea with a bill in the legislature that would levy a one-cent surcharge on the sale of consumable goods
